Pharmx launches platform to simplify pharmacy procurement in Australia

Tue, 18th Nov 2025

Pharmx has introduced a new ordering platform designed to change how pharmacies in Australia procure products, aiming to simplify workflows and enhance supply chain transparency across the industry.

Procurement challenges

The process of ordering and managing supplies within pharmacies has long been cited as inefficient and complex. According to industry research, 70% of pharmacies are looking for changes to their ordering processes. Pharmx's new Marketplace seeks to directly address these operational pain points by consolidating multiple supplier relationships and data streams into a single digital interface.

Marketplace features

The Marketplace is integrated within the Pharmx Pharmacy Portal and complements existing point-of-sale ordering through the Pharmx Gateway. It enables customer-facing product discovery, price comparison, and access to supplier promotions, enhancing the end-to-end ordering process for pharmacies.

Key features include StockView, which uses transaction data to provide real-time visibility across fulfillment partners and improve supply reliability. The Marketplace also surfaces accurate and transparent pricing by displaying each pharmacy's most recent purchase price, helping operators remain aligned with trading agreements.

The platform leverages existing purchasing data to support simplified re-ordering and integrates with all major point-of-sale systems, aiming for compatibility with current pharmacy workflows. The database consolidates over 40,000 products from hundreds of suppliers, including the complete ParagonCare range, expanding sourcing options within a centralised marketplace.

Additionally, a promotions hub provides pharmacies with access to a range of offers-including specialised turnover promotions-while giving suppliers a data-driven method to reach their customer base more effectively.

Integration and efficiency

Pharmx positions its technology as an evolution from basic order transmission to a full-service procurement solution. The company emphasises system integration and data-driven features as central to improving pharmacy procurement efficiency.

"The new Pharmx Marketplace represents a step-change in our commercial and strategic trajectory. Pharmacies are seeking simpler, integrated solutions so they can focus on the things that matter to them, delivering the highest standards of care to their communities," said Tom Culver, Chief Executive Officer, Pharmx.

The platform is also designed to streamline workflow and reduce the time spent on manual ordering by leveraging historic data and automation.

Revenue diversification

Pharmx's accessible market consists of around 6,000 Australian pharmacies, encompassing an estimated annual transaction value of AUD $20 billion. The company's Marketplace operates on a volume-based fee model, and it is broadening its routes to revenue by incorporating data insights, supplier integration, and promotional services into its offering.

The expected commercial impact of the initiative remains to be quantified. Pharmx notes that improved ordering processes, increased supplier participation, and enhanced platform integration are predicted to translate into higher revenue and profitability over time.

"Ultimately, the platform delivers a simplified and modernised ordering experience for Australian pharmacies, addressing a major market need and completes the pharmacy-side rollout of Pharmx's single platform strategy consolidating our ecosystem into one scalable, integrated digital infrastructure," said Culver.
