Itron partners with TasWater to modernise water data

Yesterday

Itron has signed a contract with TasWater to deploy its Temetra platform for water meter data collection.

TasWater is the sole water and sewage utility in Tasmania, Australia, and its partnership with Itron is aimed at enhancing its operations by using the Temetra cloud-based platform. The platform facilitates the gathering of frequent and accurate water meter usage data, which can be collected by simply driving or walking past the meter location. This aligns with TasWater's strategic focus on unlocking the full potential of water resources.

Part of TasWater's strategy involves delivering customer value, building effective partnerships, fostering a healthier environment, and enhancing climate resilience. To support these aims, Temetra's implementation is set to transform TasWater's workflow by simplifying the data collection process and boosting customer satisfaction. The platform includes a feature that alerts the utility to potential data input errors, thereby reducing billing inaccuracies.

The need to manually collect readings from each specific endpoint is eliminated with Temetra, allowing TasWater employees to collect readings more safely and efficiently. This system also cuts down on the time required for data collection. Moreover, Temetra provides alerts about potential anomalies in the meters, ensuring that field workers can swiftly respond to issues as they arise.

Temetra's key capabilities include the collection and storage of detailed water meter data from devices such as smartphones, tablets, and web browsers. All information is securely stored in an accessible cloud platform, allowing TasWater's field workers to easily provide real-time meter data to those not on location. Notably, the platform's adaptability permits the collection of data from Itron and third-party meters, enabling TasWater to enhance its network infrastructure according to its corporate strategy.

Matt Balfe, General Manager Customer and Community at TasWater, remarked, "As the only water utility in Tasmania, we want to ensure the solutions we deploy on our island state truly benefit our more than 900 employees and the more than 470,000 Tasmanians we supply services to. Temetra enables us to reduce billing errors, which in turn improves customer satisfaction, and as extreme weather events occur, our employees can leverage automated meter reading rather than manual meter reading to keep them safe. At TasWater, our purpose is to provide exceptional water and sewerage services for a thriving Tasmania. We are thrilled to collaborate with Itron to create a more efficient water meter data collection system."

Alex Beveridge, Director of Sales, APAC at Itron, stated, "With Temetra, TasWater can store everything in the cloud through a secure and easily accessible platform. The solution collects and uploads meter data in real-time which provides transparency to those across the utility company. When extreme weather events occur, TasWater can quickly assign or reassign work based on the meter and meter reading location via Temetra Geo-Routing. This feature can be crucial in a time when unexpected weather events occur. As TasWater embarks on its Unlocking Water's Full Potential strategy, we are excited to provide Temetra, our complete cutting-edge mobile data collection package."
