Momentum accelerator opens for security tech startups
Applications are now open for the National Security & Dual-Use Technology Cohort of the Momentum Accelerator, hosted by UQ Ventures in partnership with Salus Ventures.
The 12-week programme, set to begin in April, is specifically tailored for startups operating in the national security and defence technology sectors. The initiative provides a significant platform for these businesses to scale up while addressing essential industry needs.
Startups active in sectors such as AI & Data, Quantum Computing, Cybersecurity, Aerospace, and Digital Health are particularly encouraged to apply. Prospective participants should have demonstrated market validation to be considered for this opportunity.
The programme seeks to equip participants with essential insights, resources, and connections needed to navigate the complex national security and dual-use sectors. It offers tailored mentorship, exclusive introductions to industry networks, access to investment opportunities, and expert insights from thought leaders and an Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR).
Vu Tran, the Co-founder of Go1 and Black Sky Industries, will assume the role of EiR. His background in developing propulsion and aerospace technologies is expected to provide significant benefits to the startups involved.
Marten Peck, Co-Founder and Partner at Salus Ventures, highlighted the significance of the collaboration. "Queensland is emerging as a leading hub for deep tech and dual-use innovation, with an expanding and vibrant community coming together to create an ideal environment for founders in these sectors," he said.
Dan Bennett, also a Co-Founder and Partner at Salus Ventures, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. "We're delighted to partner with UQ on the Momentum Accelerator for National Security and Dual-Use Technology and look forward to sharing our unique capabilities and access to our community to help accelerate the growth of the participating cohort," he stated.
Nimrod Klayman, Head of Entrepreneurship at UQ, emphasized the potential benefit of this programme. He said, "Momentum has helped some of Queensland's most promising startups scale, and we're thrilled to extend this opportunity to founders innovating in national security and dual-use technology."
Furthermore, the partnership with Salus Ventures is expected to offer participants not just sector insights but also access to essential funding and industry connections. "Our partnership with Salus Ventures ensures participants gain not only deep sector insights, but access to funding and critical industry connections. I commend QIC for making this collaboration possible and look forward to what UQ Ventures and Salus Ventures can achieve together," Klayman added.
The programme presents an investment opportunity of up to USD $400,000 from Salus Ventures for the selected startups, dependent upon specific terms being met.
Applications for the Accelerator are open until April 4, 2025. Interested companies are encouraged to apply promptly to capitalise on this opportunity to progress in national security and dual-use technology sectors.
