CDC launches USD $2.7 billion Laverton data campus

Wed, 19th Feb 2025

Construction has begun on a new 150-megawatt data campus in Laverton, Melbourne, expected to deliver a USD $2.7 billion boost to the local economy and create thousands of jobs.

The project is part of CDC's expansion strategy in Melbourne, complementing its existing data centre in Brooklyn and raising its total capacity in Victoria to over 780-megawatts. The company's Founder and CEO, Greg Boorer, was joined by government representatives, customers, and partners to mark the commencement of the construction.

"I am delighted to expand our presence in Melbourne and offer more customers access to our secure, reliable and connected data centres," Greg Boorer stated. "We have a solid base of existing customers in Victoria who have growing demands as well as interest from new customers who want highly secure and resilient access to their data. So, the decision to construct this facility in Laverton was a logical next step in our growth plans and aligned to our commitment to support the progress of our customers."

The Laverton data campus is anticipated to have significant economic and employment impacts, particularly within sectors such as construction, civil and electrical engineering, manufacturing, equipment hire, and facility management. The timing of this project coincides with prevailing economic challenges affecting businesses and households.

Mr Boorer emphasised the community benefits of CDC's investment, noting, "I am proud that CDC can play our role in generating thousands of local jobs and invest billions of dollars into Victorian economy. It is not lost on me – or my team – that the Laverton data campus will be game changing for this region, as well as the customers it will serve."

CDC's data centres serve a diverse array of sectors including critical infrastructure, government, research and education, and technology. New customer segments are also emerging as businesses increasingly seek reliability, flexibility, and sustainability, particularly in the context of opportunities presented by advancements in AI, cloud and other technologies.
