Cloudera and ADF partner for e-health management system

FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has selected Cloudera as a strategic data partner to help transform its e-health management system.

Through this partnership, Cloudera will have a broader footprint across Australia's Department of Defence, and the company says it is a testament to its strategic relationship with Defence and Leidos.

Australia's Department of Defence selected Leidos Australia to lead a consortium under its recently awarded contract for the JP2060 Ph4 Project.

The consortium includes Cloudera and is designed to provide the ADF's Health Knowledge Management System.

“Leidos Australia looks forward to working with Defence and our team of exceptional health sector partners to deliver this critical capability to the ADF,” Leidos Australia chief executive Paul Chase says.

“Our team's health expertise, as well as Leidos' vast Defence experience, will deliver a modern, sovereign solution that will meet the evolving healthcare needs of the ADF.

The project is valued at approximately AUD$299 million and involves replacing ADF's legacy electronic health record product with a modern, patient-centric health offering.

The new system will document, store, collect and analyse health data and information for the ADF population, bringing together multidisciplinary primary and occupational care with emergency hospital care to allow for better clinical decision-making.

Cloudera will provide private-cloud-native data engineering capabilities using its CDP Data Engineering offering, which will be crucial to the deployment.

CDP Data Engineering will ingest data from multiple sources, including legacy systems and new data streams.

In addition, it will create secure data products that streamline and operationalise the data contained in the Health Knowledge Management System, as well as provide quick and reliable data that will be of greater value to data scientists from the moment they receive it, irrespective of workload, to support better decision-making.

“Cloudera is extremely honoured to have been selected to be part of this important healthcare project, led by Leidos, in Australia,” Cloudera ANZ senior alliance manager Colin Pont says.

“We understand the challenges faced by governments in extracting value from citizen health data to improve both the clinician and patient journey from primary to emergency care, rehabilitation to recovery are extremely complex.

“For defence personnel, that journey from the field through evacuation to hospital and recovery is even more so.

“Having an intelligent, data-driven solution that strengthens e-health record keeping across such complex settings will be key to identifying and delivering appropriate care to those who serve.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Leidos and other consortium members to support this transformation project.

This partnership comes after Talend recently enhanced its support for Cloudera with the addition of a new certification for Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) on the Public Cloud, as well as CDP data services, including Data Hub and Data Engineering.

As a Cloudera Connect Certified Technology, Talend has been tested, validated and certified to work with CDP.

According to the company, Talend provides Cloudera customers greater agility to manage healthy data more effectively and efficiently across on-premises and cloud, enabling analytics in an optimised modern cloud environment to achieve greater value from their data.
