Tue, 21st May 2024

Anglicare Southern Queensland has announced the appointment of Cynthia Hanley as its new Chief Financial Officer. Ms Hanley will oversee a team of 40 staff across Finance, Procurement, and Property services at the not-for-profit organisation.

With over 20 years of experience, Ms Hanley has previously worked with significant organisations such as Australia Post, Victoria University, and most recently, Queensland University of Technology. Her extensive experience will be a strategic asset for Anglicare Southern Queensland.

Sue Cooke, Anglicare Southern Queensland's Chief Executive Officer, expressed her delight at Ms Hanley's appointment. "We're pleased to welcome Cynthia to the role of Chief Financial Officer and know that she brings a wealth of experience to our executive leadership team," Ms Cooke stated. She further emphasised Ms Hanley's expertise in finance, procurement, systems, and corporate divisions.

Ms Hanley articulated her values-driven approach, aiming to explore a career in the not-for-profit sector. "I hold curiosity and fairness as two core values, and I believe that working at Anglicare will allow me to embody these values while contributing to the success of the organisation," she remarked. Ms Hanley praised Anglicare's collaborative culture and expressed her eagerness to contribute to its long-term success.

Despite being in the role for less than four months, Ms Hanley has already begun to focus on ensuring that Anglicare Southern Queensland meets its strategic goals and enhances its sustainability. "I always think longer term, so I am really looking forward to supporting the organisation to achieve newly defined strategic goals. Specifically, I am keen to see where stability and sustainability can be improved across the diverse sectors we operate within," she said.

Ms Hanley also highlighted the challenges present in the aged care sector, particularly given the ageing population and the decreasing workforce available to service it. She aims to ensure her team is well-versed in modern practices and that Anglicare remains at the forefront of these challenges. "Ensuring the team is equipped with current practices and supporting Anglicare in the most effective way is a priority," she added.

In addition to her immediate objectives, Ms Hanley stressed the importance of remaining future-focused and integrating technologies such as AI and machine learning to improve day-to-day operations. Her forward-thinking approach aims to keep Anglicare current in an ever-evolving environment.

Anglicare Southern Queensland extended its gratitude to the outgoing Chief Financial Officer, Sandra Long, who has been with the organisation since July 2021. "We wish Sandra all the very best as she embarks on the next chapter of her career. She has contributed significantly to Anglicare's strategic direction and performance," Cooke stated.

Anglicare Southern Queensland, founded in 1870, has grown into a comprehensive community services and health care organisation. It provides a broad range of services, including aged care, foster care, homelessness support, and mental health and family counselling, empowering over 50,000 Queenslanders annually.
