DeepL report reveals AI's transformative role in law
DeepL has released a new report titled "AI and Law: Unlocking Global Success," which focuses on the impact of AI within the legal profession, including trends and opportunities through 2025.
The report indicates a significant increase in adoption of artificial intelligence within the legal sector, with 87% of surveyed legal professionals stating that DeepL's AI tools have aided in speeding up their work. This includes enhancements in document translation, content accuracy, and communication.
Frankie Williams, Chief Legal Officer at DeepL, explained, "In today's fast-paced and increasingly global legal market, AI tools are becoming indispensable, transforming various aspects of legal work, including document generation, review and translation. This frees up time for more impactful work."
The surge in AI use is evident, according to the report, with 61% of lawyers already incorporating AI into their workflows or planning to do so, and nearly 50% of in-house counsel anticipate that the law firms they engage will employ artificial intelligence within the coming year. Over a quarter of lawyers reported regular usage of AI by January 2024, compared to just 11% the six months prior.
DeepL's report highlights the globalisation of the legal sector, driving the adoption of AI technologies. As legal professionals navigate international regulations and diverse cultural contexts, artificial intelligence provides support through tasks like translation and research. Language AI tools are recognised as top solutions, with DeepL's offerings frequently used for document translation (54%), content accuracy checks (53%), and enhanced communication (54%).
Dr. Axel Freiherr von dem Bussche, Partner at Taylor Wessing, a legal customer of DeepL, noted the rapid transformation within the sector facilitated by AI, stating, "In twenty five years practicing as a tech lawyer, the actual speed and level of transformation of our working environment is without example. AI support is key to maintain our competitiveness, including legally safe and technically accurate translations."
Since its inception in 2017, DeepL has become a go-to Language AI provider for the legal sector, offering specialized AI translation solutions for both written and spoken content, as well as advanced writing and editing tools. These solutions have become essential for law firms, legal tech companies, and in-house legal teams, addressing communication challenges across a variety of areas such as legal documentation, client correspondence, and internal collaboration. In addition, DeepL offers a range of advanced, enterprise-grade security features including TLS encryption and text deletion for paid users, providing the highest level of data security.
