Communications Alliance has announced the appointment of Luke Coleman as Chief Executive Officer, effective from September 2024. In an exciting move, Coleman will succeed the current CEO, John Stanton.

Mr Coleman brings a wealth of experience to the position, having spent over eighteen years in journalism, government, and the communications industry.

Prior to his new role, he served as the Head of Government and Corporate Affairs for Vocus, a provider of specialist fibre and network solutions. His political experience includes advising the former Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications, Paul Fletcher, and later serving as Chief of Staff to the former Minister for Communications, Senator Mitch Fifield.

Michael Lee, Chairman of the Communications Alliance Board, expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment.

"We are thrilled to welcome Luke as our new CEO," he said. "His extensive experience and track record of fostering collaboration between government and corporate Australia will be invaluable as we continue to advocate for the communications industry."

"Luke’s leadership will be pivotal in driving regulatory reform, enhancing our public profile, and strengthening our influence with stakeholders in an increasingly challenging co-regulatory environment."

Coleman also shared his thoughts with TechDay on taking up the role with Communications Alliance.

"Having spent my entire professional career in telecommunications, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the industry I love so much as CEO," he said.

"The telecoms sector is experiencing a period of great disruption, and the role played by Communications Alliance as the voice of the industry has never been more important."

"I firmly believe that digital connectivity is the foundation of the modern economy, and I look forward to working with the Board, members, and stakeholders to ensure our industry is able to deliver to its full potential."

Communications Alliance's membership includes a diverse range of entities from carriers, internet service providers, and content providers to IT companies and business groups.

The organisation’s vision is to be a cooperative force in fostering sustainable industry development, innovation, and growth, while aiming to generate positive outcomes for customers and society alike.

Key initiatives of Communications Alliance focus on creating a stakeholder environment that allows the industry to lead on initiatives aimed at growing the Australian communications sector, enhancing connectivity for all Australians, and maintaining high standards of business behaviour.
