Rimini Street expands database security with new features

Today

Rimini Street has announced an expansion of its database security offerings with enhancements to the Rimini Protect Advanced Database Security Suite, aimed at providing stronger defences against various vulnerabilities for Oracle, SAP, and VMware users.

The Rimini Protect Advanced Database Security Suite now offers greater flexibility and security for a wide range of databases, including Oracle, SAP, IBM, and PostgreSQL.

This solution includes a set of capabilities exclusive to Rimini Street among third-party support providers.

The suite builds on its Advanced Database Security, a zero-day defence system that addresses a wide range of vulnerabilities.

Currently, the suite includes modules such as Database Assessment, Database Discovery, and Custom Rules, with plans to introduce a Security Rule Software Development Kit (SDK) in 2025.

These new modules are available individually or as a complete bundle through a subscription model, solely provided by Rimini Street. The combined offerings aim to mitigate risks by closely monitoring and proactively securing databases, with Rimini Street emphasizing control over security posture at a flexible cost.

Gabe Dimeglio, Group Vice President and General Manager of Rimini Protect, said, "As the first to market the ADS solution technology in third-party support, we have seen attempts to follow and imitate our unique, constantly advancing approach."

Dimeglio added, "As the proven global leader of third-party support, we are held to a higher standard, which is why we continue to invest in partnerships and develop in-house talent to implement, operate and address enterprise database security challenges."

The expanded capabilities include features such as Database Assessment, which assists in identifying security and compliance issues more efficiently with over 7,000 security verifications.

Database Discovery aims to identify forgotten databases and protect data across the entire database footprint, while Custom Rules allows for the creation of bespoke governance, risk management, and compliance needs.

Dimeglio also commented on the potential impact of Custom Rules, "The ability for Rimini Street to create new Security Rules and Custom Rules is going to be a true game changer for our clients' database security."

"We will utilise Rimini Street's extensive database and security knowledge and experience to create new Security Rules that proactively protect commercial and open-source databases from threat actors, delivering critical security and compliance capabilities not available elsewhere the market."

He further elaborated, "The use cases for Custom Rules are limited only by your imagination. From financial transaction auditing or permissions change alerting to the blocking of specific actions and/or changes to the database or the database structure. This is a comprehensive solution that brings relevant enforcement, compliance, auditing, and reporting capabilities truly unique to the business' needs."

Rimini Street's Advanced Database Security Suite aims to secure databases against threats and vulnerabilities without modifying vendor code or requiring vendor security patches, emphasising ease of use, detection, and protection from attacks on Database Management Systems.

Keisuke Hamanaka, Deputy General Manager of Process, IT and Data Management at Ricoh, highlighted the benefits of selecting Rimini Street for Oracle Database security.

"We made a comparative evaluation with other companies offering similar services and concluded that Rimini Street is the only partner that can support the Japanese market with the high-quality support and protection we desire, at a price that aligns with our financial goals," said Hamanaka.

Rimini Protect offers clients a robust support process, including a 10-minute guaranteed response time for critical issues and frequent updates.

Ricoh attributes substantial cost savings to Rimini Street's services and appreciates the dependable security for protecting critical Oracle database data.

With an ever-changing threat landscape, Rimini Street continues to address clients' database security concerns by enhancing their defence strategies and maximising the value of existing systems, according to Dimeglio.

"Whether to enhance and add to your defence strategy or to maximise the value of existing systems, Rimini Street offers peace of mind and a trusted partnership that has proven successful for top leaders, sensitive government operations and high-security organisations across the globe," he added.
