Zeller Terminal 2 wins trio of awards for design & payments

Tue, 14th Oct 2025

Zeller Terminal 2 has received industry recognition with three awards for its design and impact in the payments sector.

The Australian Good Design Awards acknowledged Zeller Terminal 2 in the 'Product Design: Commercial and Industrial' category, while the WeMoney Merchant Payments Awards named it both Merchant Terminal of the Year and Merchant Payment Provider of the Year for 2025.

Award details

The Australian Good Design Awards, established in 1958, are widely recognised as the country's longest running international design programme. The awards span 11 disciplines with more than 35 categories, aiming to highlight design excellence and its role in business, industry, government, and daily life. The latest winners were assessed by an independent jury focusing on criteria such as form, function, safety, commercial success, and potential for positive impact.

Jury commentary on Zeller Terminal 2 described the device as "a next generation payment and point of sale terminal enabling businesses to accept electronic payments, track sales, and issue receipts. Its simple shape and proportionality give it a sense of stability. It can be easily used by anyone and seems to have few elements to break down. Overall, a professionally designed product that will have a positive impact on its market segment."

Product design and features

Zeller Terminal 2 was developed in Australia, designed in-house by CEO and founder Ben Pfisterer and Head of Design Joe Bland. The device was launched across the country in August 2024. The terminal departs from traditional EFTPOS design, providing both built-in and integrated point-of-sale features. It accepts fast and secure payments, issues e-receipts, includes discreet tipping prompts, and features a large HD display that can be tailored to show business branding or promotional screensavers.

This next-generation device is utilised by a range of businesses, with claims of wide adoption since its release. According to Zeller, tens of thousands of businesses have already integrated Terminal 2 into their payment systems.

Merchant feedback

Businesses using Zeller Terminal 2 have highlighted several benefits. Gavin Shaw, Head Distiller and co-founder at Hillmartin Gin, commented on the device's versatility and appearance: "Zeller Terminal 2 has been a huge upgrade for taking payments. As we travel to events and markets we needed a solution that was mobile, reliable, and easy to use. Zeller ticks all of these boxes - and looks amazing sitting on our counter, too."

Corporate perspective

"Zeller is rapidly becoming a global leader in payment innovation, and recognition from customers and industry motivates us to continue to deliver innovation like Zeller Terminal 2," said Ben Pfisterer, Zeller CEO and founder. "The interaction between a merchant and their customer is of critical importance, so we felt ugly, outdated, and clunky bank terminals were ready for a complete redesign. The result was Zeller Terminal 2; the world's most advanced, all-in-one payment and POS solution with a design merchants can be proud of. Whether it's a gin distiller using it to record sales at events, or a large multi-site franchise group deploying Zeller Terminal 2 across a fleet of kiosks, we're excited to see our award-winning hardware being used at businesses nationwide."

Sector context

The WeMoney Merchant Payments Awards select recipients based on input from business users and industry observers, acknowledging excellence in areas such as feature innovation, reliability, and user experience. Zeller Terminal 2's success in both the terminal and provider categories reflects its dual role as a technology platform and as a service provider for merchants in retail, hospitality, and other customer-facing businesses.

Zeller's in-house approach, from hardware design to software engineering, has been noted by stakeholders. The company credits its engineering team for the software underpinning the device's interface and security functions.

Zeller Terminal 2 is only available through the company's direct sales channel, with no third-party distributors. This exclusivity is positioned by Zeller as part of its customer support and feedback model, allowing the company to iterate on its devices and services in response to business needs.

Market observers note that the awards signal a trend towards merchant payment solutions that emphasise both functionality and user experience, as businesses evaluate new options for digital payment processing and point-of-sale technology in Australia.
