Hyperlayer has raised £19.5 million in a Series A2 funding round led by Flintlock Capital, valuing the banking technology company at £195 million.

The round brings Hyperlayer's total funding to nearly £50 million since October 2025. Mouro Capital, Susquehanna Private Equity Investments, and other existing and new investors also participated.

Hyperlayer will use the money to expand its product, engineering, and implementation teams and support growth in the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The company was founded in 2023 by former Morgan Stanley colleagues Rob Rooney and Paul Rolles.

The business develops technology designed to help banks modernise systems without replacing core infrastructure. Its software sits above existing technology stacks, allowing lenders to launch new products and address operational constraints linked to older systems.

The funding round also brings a board change: Joe Shamess, Co-Founder and General Partner at Flintlock Capital, will join Hyperlayer's board of directors.

According to Hyperlayer, backers are returning to the company for a second time in 12 months following early commercial traction with large banking clients.

"We're fortunate to be backed by deep experts in fintech. They've watched us go from a standing start to mandates with global Tier 1 banks in three years. That's what's convinced them to back where the company goes next," said Rob Rooney, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hyperlayer.

The funding comes as banks and other financial institutions face continued pressure to update digital services while maintaining older back-end systems tied to regulatory and operational requirements. Companies in this market have positioned themselves as an alternative to full core system replacement, which can be costly and lengthy.

Leadership changes

Alongside the financing, Hyperlayer announced two senior management changes. Louise Chan, a board director and current Chief Operating Officer, will become Chief Commercial Officer, while Ben Helps, currently Chief Strategy Officer, will become Chief Operating Officer.

Hyperlayer said the changes recognise the roles both executives have already been carrying out as the business grows. The reshuffle comes as the company adds staff in product delivery, implementation, and software development.

"Hyperlayer's promise is clear. Banks, credit unions and other financial institutions must modernise at fintech speed without ripping out the core systems that protect them. A year on, that thesis is proven with world-class customers and strong market pull. Leading this round, and joining the board, is us doubling down on where Rob and Paul take the business next," said Joe Shamess.

Hyperlayer is part of a growing group of fintech suppliers targeting incumbent banks that want to improve customer-facing products without undertaking multi-year replacement programmes for legacy systems. These providers typically focus on adding new software layers that connect to existing infrastructure, allowing lenders to change products and processes with less disruption.

That approach has drawn investor interest as large financial institutions continue to balance digital competition from newer challengers with the practical limits of overhauling critical banking systems. Investors have also shown interest in businesses that can sell into major banks without requiring wholesale system migrations.

Rooney and Rolles launched Hyperlayer after careers in financial services, and the company says it now works with financial institutions globally. The fundraising suggests investors see further room for specialist banking software vendors serving institutions that need incremental modernisation rather than full replacement.

Rooney outlined the reasoning behind the executive appointments in a further statement. "Both are exceptional colleagues and serious contributors to our success to date. Louise has been closing the deals that prove the model works. Ben has been building the operating discipline and strategy that let us deliver for clients and scale without breaking. These appointments recognise the roles they are already playing as Hyperlayer grows and gathers pace," said Rooney.
