mecwacare trials InteliCare tech to enhance aged care safety

Wed, 27th Aug 2025

mecwacare has commenced a three-month trial of InteliCare technology at the Trescowthick Centre in Prahran, Victoria.

InteliCare, developed by an Australian technology company, integrates discreet sensors such as door monitors and wearable devices with predictive analytics software. This system is designed to provide care teams with real-time updates on residents' wellbeing, aiming to improve safety, independence, and the overall quality of life for aged care residents.

The system works by detecting early warning signs of emotional or physical distress - including potential fall risks or shifts in behaviour - enabling staff to intervene before incidents occur. By functioning quietly in the background and requiring no interaction from residents, it supports a proactive approach to care.

According to mecwacare, this model delivers timely support and helps prevent minor issues from escalating into more significant problems. The technology's ability to alert staff to potential concerns is intended to strengthen the existing care framework at the facility.

Real-time data

"Resident wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do," said Mr Killbride. "By harnessing real-time data and predictive insights, we can tailor health and wellbeing plans for each individual and provide support exactly when and where it's needed. We're thrilled to partner with InteliCare and look forward to analysing the data and results of the trial."

Kendall Killbride, mecwacare's General Manager, Information Technology Transformation, commented that InteliCare's real-time monitoring and predictive analytics could be crucial for enhancing resident care through the development of highly personalised health and wellbeing plans.

The technology trial at the Prahran site is intended to both assess InteliCare's capabilities and gather feedback from those directly impacted by its implementation, including residents, their families, and care staff.

Industry perspective

"We're excited to commence this trial with mecwacare to demonstrate the real-world impact of our technology in residential aged care," said Mr Pilbrow. "Together, we're showing how innovating can ease pressure on staff and give families peace of mind."

Daniel Pilbrow, Chief Executive of InteliCare, said that the opportunity to showcase practical outcomes in residential aged care settings is significant for both companies, with the potential to improve workflows for staff and increase reassurance for family members.

The three-month trial will use ongoing feedback from all stakeholders to guide decisions on possible future integration of the technology at other mecwacare facilities. The organisation operates 22 aged care homes throughout Victoria, focusing on providing care that supports residents' independence and wellbeing for as long as possible.

Commitment to improvement

The introduction of the InteliCare trial is part of mecwacare's strategy of continuous improvement and willingness to explore new technology solutions within aged care. According to the organisation, this aligns with its broader objective to provide resident-centred, proactive care services that can adapt to changing needs and circumstances.

The initiative also complements mecwacare's breadth of operations, including home care and retirement living services across Victoria, aiming to support older people to age well in a variety of settings.
