New Relic reports climate progress, AI compliance & education push

Thu, 24th Jul 2025

New Relic has released its Impact Report for the fiscal year 2025, outlining milestones in environmental sustainability, artificial intelligence governance, and global technology education.

The report highlights New Relic's approval for science-based climate targets, the introduction of a compliance programme aligned with the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act, and expanded educational partnerships providing software tools and training to students in Latin America.

Climate action

New Relic's efforts in environmental sustainability were recognised with the approval of its near-term science-based targets by the Science Based Targets initiative. These commitments align with the most ambitious 1.5°C global warming pathway and require cuts in Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions, with adjustments in areas including business travel.

Alongside target-setting, New Relic reported progress in operational sustainability by migrating to AWS Graviton-based cloud instances. This transition resulted in a 37 percent reduction in emissions for the workloads that were migrated, as well as improvements in compute performance and efficiency.

Advancing access to tech education

New Relic expanded its focus on technology education by establishing a partnership with GitHub Education and Platzi. Through this partnership, millions of students across Latin America gained access to more than 80 free software tools and training programmes. The initiative aims to support students and early-career technologists, providing practical experience in technology and software development platforms.

Ethical AI governance

The company announced the launch of a new compliance programme in response to the European Union Artificial Intelligence Act, regarded as the world's first comprehensive regulation in AI. The programme includes internal AI policies, implementation processes, and educational resources designed to support responsible innovation and ensure compliance.

Additionally, New Relic has implemented retrieval-augmented generation techniques to minimise the use of customer data in training artificial intelligence models. The company has also launched AI monitoring features, designed to help its customers maintain their own compliance standards.

"Positive impact and responsible business is at the core of how New Relic operates and develops its technology. In FY25, we took meaningful steps forward - gaining approval for our ambitious science-based climate targets, expanding access to our platform for millions of learners, and leading the way for ethical approaches to AI, to name just a few. It's rewarding to see the impact our teams are making, and our continued efforts reflect our belief that growth and integrity must go hand in hand."

Social impact and inclusion

The report also details New Relic's social initiatives. In FY25, the company launched a Global Impact Challenge, which gives employees - referred to internally as Relics - the ability to direct donation funds to nonprofits of their choosing. Employees were encouraged to engage in volunteer work as part of this programme, with more than half of staff participating for a total of 5,943 hours of volunteer service.

New Relic received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign's 2025 Corporate Equality Index and was awarded the "Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion" Equality 100 Award. The company states that this national recognition underlines its ongoing commitment to providing an inclusive environment for employees.

Chief Executive Officer Ashan Willy also commented on the company's approach, stating: "Growth and integrity must go hand in hand."
