A new report from Verizon Connect highlights the growing role of fleet management technology in transforming Australian businesses.

The 2025 Fleet Technology Trends Report Australia reveals that 75% of Australian fleets are currently utilising GPS tracking technology. The survey, conducted among over 500 fleet managers and industry professionals, shows 82% of respondents consider GPS tracking "very" or "extremely" beneficial and 67% report notable cost reductions.

Beyond GPS tracking, the report notes that businesses are using in-cab video solutions to enhance driver safety and protect against false claims. Asset tracking technology is also improving equipment utilisation and security.

Key areas of improvement highlighted in the report include cost reduction, with 67% of Australian respondents reporting benefits in reduced fleet costs. Additionally, an average reduction in fuel consumption of 21% was noted.

The report mentions enhanced productivity and compliance, with 50% of respondents reporting improvements in these areas after implementing fleet tracking solutions. Improvements in safety were reported by 73% of video solution adopters, while 44% noted better customer service.

The survey identifies a rising trend in the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Australian fleets, with 51% of respondents incorporating EVs into their operations. As the move towards sustainability gathers pace, this trend is expected to accelerate.

Peter Mitchell, General Manager of Verizon Connect, stated, "As Australia moves towards a more sustainable future, fleet management technology is helping businesses lead the way with the rise of electric fleets and a growing focus on reducing emissions. Our data shows that GPS tracking alone is helping businesses achieve significant fuel savings and a rapid return on investment, proving that fleet tech is a game-changer for Australian businesses."

The report concludes with a discussion on the importance of investing in innovative solutions amid rising fuel costs, safety concerns, and regulatory pressures. It describes fleet tracking technology as "much more than just dots on a map," offering businesses the insights needed to make informed, strategic decisions.
