Digital Matter unveils affordable Barra Core for Australian SMEs

Yesterday

Australian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) now have access to an advanced asset tracking solution with the release of the Barra Core by Digital Matter.

The innovative device is designed to be a cost-effective option for SMEs, allowing them to track inventory and equipment both indoors and outdoors.

Digital Matter's Barra Core is priced at less than AUD $60 per tracker and is engineered to operate for over 10 years on two AA batteries. The durable and waterproof construction of the device ensures it can withstand harsh conditions. Ken Everett, CEO of Digital Matter, highlights the benefits of the Barra Core, stating, "Whether it be keeping tabs on machines, tools, rental equipment or pallets, we want Australian SME owners to get more value out of the items that matter to them."

The device utilises a combination of wi-fi access point information and cell tower data for location tracking. "When in urban areas, the Barra Core uses existing wi-fi access point information to determine its location, and falls back to cell tower location data when no wi-fi networks are around," explained Everett. This capability allows the device to track items with an accuracy of 5-10 metres, even when indoors.

Beyond simple location tracking, the Barra Core includes several advanced features. These include tamper detection, the ability to sense how many hours equipment has been running, recovery mode in case of theft, and detection if an item has been dropped or rough handled during transit. "We've already seen this technology embraced by larger companies, but we could see that there was a gap in the market for small and medium sized businesses who have products of value that they need to track," Everett added.

The introduction of the Barra Core provides SMEs the opportunity to adopt asset tracking technology usually reserved for larger corporations, but at a significantly lower cost. Everett notes, "Our new Barra range empowers businesses to be able to operate with the efficiency and accuracy of industry giants like Amazon, but at a fraction of the cost." Digital Matter aims to facilitate greater operational efficiency and asset management for smaller enterprises with this new offering.

Australian SMEs interested in the Barra Core can trial the device for three months free of charge, provided they register and intend to track at least 20 assets. This trial period offers business owners a risk-free opportunity to evaluate the benefits of integrating the tracking solution into their operations.

The company, known for its expertise in battery-powered asset tracking, has developed and manufactured over three million devices sold in more than 130 countries. Mr. Everett concludes, "Our goal is to provide cost-effective tracking solutions that empower smaller companies to operate with the same level of efficiency and precision as larger corporations, ultimately helping them achieve greater success and growth."
