NEXTDC announces Google Cloud expansion for Victoria
Wed, 21st Jul 2021
FYI, this story is more than a year old

NEXTDC has announced that their M2 Melbourne data center will now provide low-latency, secure access directly to Google Cloud from anywhere in Australia.

Helping to further enable the journey to Hybrid Cloud, government and enterprise organisations can now connect locally, and natively to Google Cloud via two new Google Cloud Interconnect access points, directly from M2 Melbourne.

According to NEXTDC, organisations connecting to Google Cloud from M2 will directly benefit from direct, highly reliable and low latency connections to Google Cloud.

Local access to Google Cloud removes the need for organisations to haul their Google Cloud workloads back to Sydney via intercapital or internet-based connections, the company states.

This not only alleviates connectivity costs, it potentially enables organisations to achieve maximum performance by close to eliminating latency and jitter across the network, NEXTDC states.

Customers have the option to choose between Google Cloud's Dedicated Interconnect accessed via a Cross Connect, or Google Cloud's Partner Interconnect solution which is accessed via NEXTDC's AXON interconnection platform.

AXON is an interconnection platform that interconnects NEXTDC's national data center footprint, to Australia's largest partner ecosystems.

On AXON, organisations gain access to all major cloud providers, carrier networks and ICT services providers nationwide.

NEXTDC CEO Craig Scroggie says, “The addition of these two new Google Cloud Interconnect services offers enterprise and government organisations greater depth and diversity when optimising their hybrid and multi-cloud strategies.

"In addition to providing an increased level of security and reliability, these new Google Interconnect locations will vastly expand Australia's access to one of the world's fastest growing cloud platforms.

Scroggie says, “Cloud is the digital foundation for our customers' transformation strategies, and as the most valuable resource in business, data forms the building blocks of new world technology and modern digital businesses. As such, the reliability, proximity and accessibility of data and digital infrastructure is essential.

"The important role NEXTDC plays for our customers is ensuring they are securely and directly interconnected to the IT services and critical digital infrastructure that drive their growth and innovation strategies.
