Zip has added THE ICONIC to its merchant network in Australia, with the payment option now live on THE ICONIC's Australian online store.

Shoppers on the fashion and lifestyle platform can now select Zip at checkout, extending the buy now, pay later group's presence in Australian retail. The partnership places Zip on one of the country's better-known online fashion marketplaces as payment providers compete for checkout placement.

THE ICONIC customers now have another payment method for purchases across the retailer's fashion, beauty, sport, home and children's ranges. Zip described the addition as part of its broader merchant network in Australia.

Becky Cook, Chief Customer & Revenue Officer, ANZ at Zip, called the retailer a notable addition to that network.

"We're thrilled to welcome THE ICONIC to the Zip merchant network. As one of Australia's most recognised fashion and lifestyle platforms, THE ICONIC is an important addition to our growing retail network," Cook said.

She also pointed to Zip's existing footprint in the sector and the role of flexible payment options in online shopping.

"Zip has a long-established presence in Australia's retail sector, and this partnership will help more customers shop with confidence, control and greater flexibility. Together with THE ICONIC, we're creating a more seamless, customer-led experience that supports deeper customer engagement while giving Australians greater confidence and control, from everyday moments to bigger purchases," Cook said.

THE ICONIC said the addition is intended to make checkout easier for customers. The retailer has operated across Australia and New Zealand since launching in 2011 as an online fashion and lifestyle business.

Joshua Nunan, Director, Platform Media & Services at THE ICONIC, said the company wanted to broaden payment choice for its customers.

"At THE ICONIC, we want to make the shopping experience as seamless as possible," Nunan said.

"Partnering with Zip gives our community of engaged fashion and lifestyle customers another easy, flexible and trusted way to shop. We're excited to work with Zip to enhance the experience for our Australian customers," he said.

Retail push

The agreement highlights the importance of merchant partnerships for buy now, pay later providers seeking visibility with consumers at the point of purchase. Placement at checkout remains a key route to customer acquisition and transaction volume, particularly in discretionary categories such as apparel and lifestyle goods.

For online retailers, adding payment methods can reduce friction and cater to customers who prefer to spread payments. Fashion has been a key category for instalment payment providers in Australia, where adoption has been closely tied to eCommerce growth and mobile shopping habits.

Zip operates in Australia and New Zealand, as well as the United States, offering point-of-sale credit and digital payment services. It says it connects millions of customers with tens of thousands of merchants globally, reflecting a model that relies on scale across both shoppers and retail partners.

THE ICONIC is part of Global Fashion Group and serves customers in Australia and New Zealand through its online marketplace. Its offer spans local and international brands across multiple categories, making it a sizeable merchant win for any payments provider looking to deepen its reach in online retail.

Checkout battle

Competition for position on retailer checkout pages has intensified as payment groups look for ways to stand out in a crowded market. Established brands in fashion, electronics, homewares and travel remain especially sought after because of their transaction volumes, repeat purchases and broad consumer recognition.

Against that backdrop, Zip's addition to THE ICONIC gives it exposure to a large base of digitally active shoppers. For THE ICONIC, the move adds another branded payment choice as retailers weigh conversion, basket size and customer preference in checkout design.

The partnership is already active for customers shopping on THE ICONIC's Australian site, where Zip now appears as a payment option at checkout.
